Portugal, like many other European countries, has a long history in the area of gambling, which, by law, is controlled only by the Portuguese State. However, April 2015 marked the turning point in the history of gambling in Portugal, with the enactment of the legal regime for online gambling and betting. In an opinion article for G3 (Gambling Business) magazine, Filipe Mayer, CCA's Partner responsible for the Online Gambling area, and Alcina de Oliveira Alves, Senior Associate in CCA's Technology, Media & Telecommunications area, talk about this new legal framework and the consequences of its application.
