The conference “Cybersecurity: Strategies for a Global World”, promoted by Acrisure and Hiscox at the University of Beira Interior, brought together experts to discuss the risks and challenges companies face in a context of growing cyber threats.

Among the speakers, José Limón Cavaco, Partner in the Insurance and Reinsurance practice at CCA Law Firm, highlighted the impact of the NIS2 Directive, recently transposed into the Portuguese legal system, underlining the reinforcement of managers’ direct responsibility in the prevention of and response to cybersecurity incidents.

According to the lawyer, the new directive “does not merely impose technical requirements on companies”, but introduces “concrete governance and oversight obligations” covering security policies, business continuity plans, crisis management, and multi‑factor authentication mechanisms. “With NIS2, managers become personally liable for serious failures in cybersecurity matters, which requires a cultural and strategic shift in the way organisations approach technological risk,” he stated.

The event was attended by several experts and leaders from the technology and insurance sectors, in a debate that reinforced the importance of prevention, continuous training, and the adoption of integrated cybersecurity solutions as essential pillars of business resilience.
