Madalena Azeredo Perdigão comments on measures decreed by the Government for the real estate sector

Madalena Azeredo Perdigão, Partner and Coordinator of the CCA’s Real Estate Department, writes an opinion piece for Diário Imobiliário on the exceptional measures enacted by the Portuguese government for the real estate sector in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"However, not everything should be reduced to emergency measures and control of possible financial collapses. We must also draw conclusions. Let’s see, 2020 began to be marked by brakes on the real estate sector imposed by the government itself. First, with severe restrictions on local accommodation, by decreeing the unexpected enlargement of the confinement areas. Then with the announced end of the Golden Visa program. Ending with several reductions in the tax incentives associated with the sector. Wouldn't it have been more prudent to let the market adjust itself?", the Partner questioned.

For Madalena Azeredo Perdigão, "we need to stop and balance ourselves. We need to create and reinvent. Even if shocks and losses occur in the short term, in the long term the sector will revitalize itself and bring new opportunities. It is time to start over. It is time to see from another angle".
