Margarida Pisco explains the differences between the working time bank and adaptability in the flexibilisation of working hours

News

The flexibilisation of working hours has become a central topic in the management of employment relationships, as companies and workers seek solutions that reconcile operational efficiency with work–life balance. Among the most commonly used regimes are the working time bank and adaptability — distinct mechanisms which, although often confused, have different impacts on the organisation of working time.

In an article for RH Magazine, Margarida Pisco, Associate in the Labour practice at CCA Law Firm, analyses both regimes and highlights the importance of an informed and strategic choice. As the lawyer notes, “the choice between a working time bank and adaptability should be based on a strategic assessment of the organisation’s needs, the profile of the workforce, and the applicable regulatory framework”.

Margarida Pisco also emphasises that both models can be relevant tools for human resources departments, provided they are applied with rigor, transparency, and clear communication, contributing to greater engagement, optimisation of productive capacity, and strengthened trust between employer and employee.
