Margarida Pisco reflects on sick leave supplements as a tool for valuing employees

News

The period of sick leave represents a moment of vulnerability for workers, with a direct impact on families’ financial balance. Although the sickness benefit paid by Social Security guarantees replacement income, it does not fully cover the usual salary and, in prolonged sick leave situations, is limited to 75% of the reference remuneration.

In this context, Margarida Pisco, Associate in the Labour practice at CCA Law Firm, reflects, in an article for RH Magazine, on the importance of the sick leave supplement as a mechanism to strengthen social protection and enhance human resources.

According to the lawyer, integrating this supplement into fringe benefit policies allows companies to demonstrate empathy and social responsibility, strengthening team motivation and commitment.

“More than a compensatory measure, the sick leave supplement can be an investment in the relationship of trust between employer and employee, translating into practice the principle that caring for people is also caring for the business.”
