Pedro Antunes warns of the risks of revising court costs

News

The revision of court costs forms part of the recent legislative package approved for the justice sector, raising relevant questions regarding the balance between system efficiency and procedural safeguards.

In an article for Jornal de Negócios, Pedro Antunes, Partner in the Labour practice area at CCA Law Firm, analyses the measures announced by the Government, acknowledging advances such as the creation of technical advisory teams to support judges, while warning of the risks associated with the revision of the Regulation of Court Costs.

“The set of measures put forward by the Government is positive, as it seeks to address structural problems of the Portuguese justice system, such as delays, lack of resources and inefficiency.”

The analysis emphasises that any changes to court costs must safeguard the right of defence and effective access to justice, avoiding inequalities within the judicial system.
