Germany will host the European Championship, EURO 2024, which will kick off in Munich on 14 June and the final match will take place in Berlin on 14 July.

Several documents have been published on UEFA's official website, including the “Media Guidelines” on topics such as the use of official names, logos, trophies, and UEFA symbols (the “Official Marks”).

This document summarises some general guidelines for the media regarding the use of UEFA Official Marks.

🟠 GENERAL PRINCIPLES:

  • Media are encouraged to use the Official Marks to illustrate editorial coverage of UEFA competitions and other events;
  • The use of Official Marks must comply with the conditions laid down in UEFA guidelines.

🟠 WHO ARE THE GUIDELINES FOR?

  • The media shall include print and digital press and journalists, editors, photographers, as well as radio and television broadcasters who have not been granted rights by UEFA pursuant to a separate agreement with UEFA.

🟠 WHAT ARE “OFFICIAL MARKS”?

  • Official names
  • Logos
  • Trophies
  • Mascots
  • Imagery and/or symbols of the UEFA competitions and other events

🟠 CAN THE MEDIA USE THE OFFICIAL MARKS IN THEIR EDITORIAL COVERAGE OF UEFA EVENTS/COMPETITIONS?

  • The media may use the Official Marks in their editorial coverage of UEFA activities and/or competitions, as follows:

i) They may only be used for editorial purposes, to identify or illustrate articles or coverage about UEFA;

ii) They should never be the dominant element of any publication or section of any publication;

iii) They must not be used in such a way as to create the impression that the publication has been officially approved by UEFA/is an official publication.

🟠 GRAPHICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF OFFICIAL MARKS:

  • They must be obtained from UEFA's official website;
  • They cannot be adapted or modified.

🟠CAN OFFICIAL MARKS BE USED FOR ADVERTISING OR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES?

  • They may not be used for advertising, marketing or promotional purposes;
  • Any use of the Official Marks must be clearly separate from advertising.

🟠 WHAT IS “AMBUSH MARKETING”?

  • It is a marketing strategy that involves creating a commercial association between products or services and an event. To avoid these practices, it is stipulated that Official Marks may not be used:

i) in a way that suggests an association of these with any trade name, logo, other mark, goods and/or services;

ii) in association with UEFA and/or any UEFA competition without its authorisation;

iii) in any way that constitutes “ambush marketing” or competes unfairly with UEFA's partners.

🟠 ONLINE USE OF OFFICIAL MARKS

Official Marks may not be:

  • Incorporated within a top level domain name;
  • Used as part of the structure or design, nor in the title banner of the website (unless specifically advised otherwise in writing by UEFA);
  • Used in meta tags or any other website identifier which may cause the website to appear when using a search engine.

🟠 USE OF OFFICIAL MARKS ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND “APPS”

  • The names of UEFA competitions included in the Official Marks may be used in word format;
  • However, UEFA's marks, logos or other intellectual property comprised within the Official Marks may not be used on or through social media platformstools or any “Apps” without UEFA's prior written approval;
  • They cannot be used to create pagechannel or “App” dedicated to a UEFA competition;
  • Nor can they be used in such a way as to convey the impression that the communication or “App” is official;
