The entry into force of the new whistleblower protection law, which transposes the European Whistleblowing Directive into Portuguese law, has raised important practical and legal questions for companies and public institutions.
In the latest episode of the podcast “Justiça Cega”, broadcast by Rádio Observador, Francisco Chio Pimenta, Senior Associate in the Compliance practice at CCA Law Firm, joined Professor Júlia Gracia of NOVA University Lisbon for an in-depth discussion on the new legal framework.
The debate, based on a recent study by NOVA University, focused on the challenges of implementing the law, the creation of internal reporting channels, and the obligations of employers, as well as the rights and protections granted to whistleblowers. Francisco Chio Pimenta emphasised the need to strike a balance between effective protection and legal certainty for all parties involved.
