Pedro Antunes talks about the role of AI in Human Resources

News

Artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithms are increasingly used in the labour world, and they are expected to help human resources (HR) avoid their own biases, adding consistency and speed to the hiring process. However, these algorithms present risks that must be taken into account. In an opinion piece for Human Resources Portugal magazine, Pedro Antunes, Partner at CCA’s Labour Department, discusses the role of AI in HR and the strategy to be adopted to apply these solutions.

"The use of AI must be considered and regulated, bearing in mind the many good examples of its application, which is far from being limited to task management. In fact, there are many automation solutions that are already frequently used by Human Resources departments, not only in recruitment, but also in performance evaluations, progression plans, training and layoffs", underlines the Partner.

However, as Pedro Antunes explains, "due to its complexity, an adequate transparency strategy must be planned and designed with different tailor-made solutions, taking into account different contexts. The way, however, will be, for the moment, to legislate in the sense of limiting the performances of these AI tools, by placing AI in a role of assistant and not of unilateral decision-maker".
