Tânia de Almeida Ferreira talks about the effects of the pandemic on gender equality

The challenges posed by the pandemic crisis may extend to several social issues, including gender equality and how COVID-19 has affected both genders, both personally and professionally. Speaking to Advocatus, Tânia de Almeida Ferreira, Partner at CCA's Tax Law Department, shares her thoughts on the effects of the pandemic on gender parity.

"Both sexes are affected by the isolation, the limitations of living within four walls, of meeting the demands of family, friends, and work. The pandemic has exacerbated the differences and tensions which, in a family context, were already there. But it did not create them", says Tânia de Almeida Ferreira.

Regarding the pandemic in the professional context, the CCA partner explains that "according to what I was told by colleagues from other offices, the pandemic will not have worsened the status quo in gender (in)equality. Where it already existed, it continued to exist; where it did not exist, inequality did not settle".

In what concerns the importance of education for a more egalitarian society, Tânia de Almeida Ferreira argues that "we are responsible for raising our children with a critical sense, with respect for others, looking at the head and heart, teaching them to think. Giving them the tools so that one day, when they decide the fate of the world, they look at the content and not the form".
